Royal Alexandra and Albert School is unique. It is a co-educational, voluntary-aided school covering the age range 7 to 18. We have over 400 boarders and 300 day boarders. We have lessons on Saturday mornings and are a true boarding school where many boarders remain at school each weekend. Our boarding fees are just under £11,625 per year (£3,875 per term), with Sixth Form £11,985 per year (£3,995 per term).
Our secondary boarding houses have a maximum 48 boarders and are well staffed with a minimum of six staff of whom three are resident. Recently we have spent £3.1 million refurbishing all the purpose-built boarding houses and further work is planned on Gatton Hall.
There are around 50 boarders and 90 non-boarders in Juniors, making us one of the largest primary boarding schools in the UK. There is one class each in Years 3 and 4 and two classes in Years 5 and 6.
Our boarding houses reflect the different ages of pupils within the school and are designed to keep the age range of any particular house quite narrow. Juniors are housed in a co-educational complex with separated first floor sleeping areas. There is one girls’ house and one boys’ house for boarders aged 11-13 and older secondary boarders occupy another five boarding houses. Finally, the Sixth Form are housed together in Gatton Hall. We believe that by avoiding houses which cover a five-year age span we create a more friendly structure.
In September 2005 the school was designated a Specialist Sports College. This has allowed us to develop extra sports facilities including an indoor Riding school and a new Cricket pavilion. We are in 260 acres of parkland yet only 5 minutes from junction 8 of the M25. In addition to the usual facilities - Sports Hall, Gymnasium, Music Centre, Drama Studio and indoor swimming pool - we have a BHS Approved Riding School with a sand school, twelve horses and two instructors and we plan to build a cross country riding course. Plans have been approved for a new Tennis Academy with 4 indoor, 4 outdoor and 2 junior courts. This should be completed in 2009.
Admission to the school is limited to holders of a UK or other European Union passport. We are not able to consider applications from holders of other passports and we do not offer English as a Foreign language – all applicants must be able to access the whole curriculum in English.
The core subjects at GCSE are Maths, English Language, English Literature, Science and ICT. To this pupils add from a range of options which currently include French, German, History, Geography, RE, Art, Drama, Music and PE as well as new Vocational GCSEs in Business Studies, Leisure and ICT.
