Ovingdean Hall School is a special school for severely and profoundly deaf children and young people including those with additional special needs.
Our primary aim is to provide pupils with the skills, qualifications and confidence to succeed in the hearing world. We foster children’s listening and speaking skills, equip them with the maximum academic and vocational qualifications and develop independent learning, living and social skills.
What we can offer:-
* A weekly boarding service for children and young people aged 10 to 19+
* Personalised learning programmes specifically designed for the individual
* A specialised teaching approach which, with the latest hearing technology, maximises children’s potential for spoken language
* Teachers who are specialists in their subjects but also specialist teachers of the deaf
* The full national curriculum including French, music and drama
* Additional literacy classes and regular speech and language therapy sessions
* On site audiology centre which monitors and assesses each child’s hearing and hearing aids
* Out of school activities that develop communication skills and encourage social interaction
* A dedicated team of care staff on 24 hour call
The school is situated just outside Brighton in a beautiful rural setting. There are extensive grounds including playing fields, a woodland conservation area, an all weather outdoor sports area and an indoor swimming pool. All classrooms are fitted with the latest hearing technology and acoustically treated. We also have a fully equipped design and technology centre and a specialised centre for individual learning, speech and language therapy and the audiology unit. The residential accommodation consists of recently refurbished bedrooms, kitchens, study rooms and lounge areas.
For post 16 students we offer specialist support services through academic or vocational courses at local mainstream colleges with optional semi independent residential accommodation. This facility is situated in the centre of Brighton, has 24 hour support and is an excellent stepping stone to independent living.
