Longridge Towers is a small co-educational boarding and day school in beautiful rural surroundings away from the distractions and pitfalls of the city but only one hour's travel from the international airports at Newcastle and Edinburgh. Small class sizes of 20 or less are the basis of the school's reputation for academic achievement and excellent, positive, co-operative, respectful inter-personal relationships. The school accepts pupils of a wide range of abilities and takes a pride in helping them to achieve their full potential.
Longridge Towers is committed to providing a high class education at modest fee levels and has figured highly in Value for Money tables compiled by the Financial Times. Its facilities compare very favourably with much more expensive schools with its own indoor heated swimming pool, sportshall, 80 acres of grounds, theatre, library, computer room and numerous science laboratories. Boarders occupy roomy bedrooms, some of which have en-suite facilities, and make full use of the beautiful Northumberland and Borders countryside and coast for outings, camping expeditions etc.
Whilst it is common for 10 - 15% of senior pupils to achieve county honours each year in sports such as rugby, cross-country, hockey, athletics and swimming, school teams are accessible to any pupil who enjoys sports. Drama and musical activities follow a very similar pattern; there are fully inclusive drama productions for whole year groups but only outstanding thespians participate in the Sixth Form Drama Society, and the school's Chamber Choir is a select group taken from the open School Choir which performs in halls and churches throughout the area.
Academic success is sought for every pupil and is facilitated by the small class sizes, which average 15 pupils per teaching group in the Senior School up to GCSE level. Pass rates at GCSE (Grade C or above) regularly exceed 90% and at A level exceed 95% but these results, whilst very good in absolute terms, are actually excellent in comparison to the abilities of the students. This was demonstrated clearly in 2002 when the school came in the Top 50 schools nationally for the Government's Value Added measurements of school performance.
Since its refoundation in 1983 the school roll has increased by 200 pupils and this has not been achieved by accident. Longridge Towers is a very special place and its qualities can best be seen by making a visit.
