Few schools can boast such a proud and colourful history as St Edmund's College, the oldest Catholic school in England. Located on a beautiful 400 acre site in the East Hertfordshire countryside, St Edmund's is an Independent, fully co-educational, day and boarding school for pupils aged 3 to 18. Although its heritage and ethos is deeply rooted in the Catholic tradition, the College welcomes students from all faiths and denominations, who appreciate the values of a Catholic Education.
The school’s main aim is to provide a safe and flourishing environment, with a strong family atmosphere, where happiness, community spirit and traditional values go hand in hand with high academic standards. As well as having access to superb teaching and sports facilities, all students are supported by a high level of pastoral care, based on a successful House system.
St Hugh's is the preparatory school, located within the College grounds, and provides wonderful opportunities for learning and play for girls and boys aged 3-11 years in a quiet, rural setting. Entry to the senior school is usually at 11+ or 16+, and although the majority of children attend as day students, a range of flexible Boarding options are also available.
As well as the impressive historical facade of the main building that resembles a large stately home, the College boasts excellent teaching and sports facilities including; state-of-the art computer suites, a recently refurbished library, art and design technology workshops, science laboratories, large sports hall, floodlit all-weather sports pitch, tennis courts, an indoor heated swimming pool and dedicated Sixth Form Centre.
Outside the classroom, all students are encouraged to develop their full potential by participating in the College’s many sporting competitions and musical and drama productions, as well as taking part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities.
Situated between London and Cambridge, the College is easily accessible by road and rail and is conveniently located near to London’s Stansted Airport. There is an extensive bus service for students aged 11 and above, with routes spanning North London, Enfield, Hertfordshire and Essex.
Visitors to the College are always warmly welcomed, so that they can come and experience for themselves the unique style and atmosphere that is St Edmund's.
