The Perse School, Cambridge is a day school with a co-educational Sixth Form. The Perse Prep School is co-educational with girls entering in 2007 and in 2008 at both 7+ and 9+. The Upper School will admit girls in 2010 (11+ and 13+) becoming fully co-educational by 2015 with greatly enhanced facilities.
The Perse aims to offer a highly academic education with a wide range of extra curricular opportunities for an exceptionally reasonable fee. Nearly all pupils go on to Higher Education with up to 25% winning Oxbridge places every year. It is regularly amongst the top 40 or so national A-Level league tables; 85% of all A-Level entries have been awarded grades A-C in each of the last eight years, with over 90% A or B in the last 4 years. Perse pupils frequently achieve national distinction in sport; music, drama and art flourish also alongside a wide range of extra-curricular activities including a thriving CCF, an Enrichment Programme, Explorer Scout Troop and Community Service Scheme.
The School looks to maintain a selective admissions procedure and aspires ultimately for the only hurdle to entry to be academic ability, rather than the means to pay school fees; hence our Access to Excellence. Admission at 11+ and 13+ is by an Entrance Examination (candidates are examined in Mathematics, English and Verbal/Non-Verbal Reasoning and given an interview) held in late January/early February each year. For entry at 16+ candidates are given offers conditional on their GCSE results (normally between 64 and 70 points in total counting A* as 10, A as 8, B as 6, and C as 4), and to achieve a satisfactory performance at interview. References will be sought (from a candidate’s present school).
Generous scholarships and bursaries, up to 100%, are available.
