King Edward's School is one of the leading academic schools in the country. While public examination results are outstanding, the school is in no sense narrowly scholastic.

The school is located, together with its sister High School for Girls, adjacent to the University of Birmingham and within ten minutes walk of University Station. A frequent 'bus service to the city centre is within five minutes walk. Special 'buses operate to and from Solihull and Walsall.

The boys enjoy, and are very successful in, a wide variety of sports. Music, Drama and the Arts flourish. Concerts and plays, in which both boys and girls take part, are of a very high standard. The school supports numerous societies and a rich programme of expeditions and foreign exchanges.

All this stems from a powerful belief that the fundamental purpose of education is to develop each boy's unique talents in preparation for his future.

Alumni - Living: Jonathon Coe; Bill Oddie; A C Smith; Mark Steyn; Sir Peter Walters; O S Wheatley; David Willetts.

(Died this century): David Munrow; Field Marshal Slim; Air Chief Marshal Sir Dennis Smallwood; J R R Tolkien; J Enoch Powell; Ken Tynan; Sir John Vane; Prof M H F Wilkins.

The Old Edwardian Association may be contacted at the school.
